PNUT's response to shitty setlists
Here's PNUT's response to people bitching on the BB about the decline of the Setlists over the years.
To Pnut:
"you should get the rest of the band to understand that no one wants to see you guys play your Greatest Hits + 5 songs every night. I know you want to be challenged and enjoy switching it up (as you said in the DC radio interview) and we, the fans, want the same. While every show I saw this summer was good, and you guys were tight and rocked, seeing the same songs every night was disappointing."
Pnut's response -
"you should get the rest of the board to understand that the world isn't full of die hard 311 fans, we fill up the place with new heads at every show. you guys are a powerful minority that we should consider (of course) but, there are all kinds of 311 fans and we tried to have this tour be an introduction to some of those newer fans. We know that without having new musick out there, that some of the diehards would not be showing up. This summer tour was the third or fourth time around the country without new musick, so, most of you have seen the show. Understand or don't, I can only tell you what I think about this situation. And yes, playing my bass in front of people who care (or don't) is still and will always be, a dream come true. Sure is easy to be critical, how have you been mixing up your sets? Walk a mile in my NIKES and then talk some shit, until then, love us or leave us. We'll be here another year, that's right!"
Simply put, this tour was not custom made for the die-hards, and without new musick, it kind of makes sense. Look for us to bring mucho diversity to the 09 sets. And if it was up to me, we'd be playing all kinds of crazy shit, but, it's not, I am just one of five, and others in the band feel differently about the sets. Balance is art, everything changes, nothing last forever, and WHY SO SERIOUS?
I think we're still semi-underground...walk up to a random person and ask them if they know who we are, that's the test. We have alot of room to grow and we plan on it. Onward we rock. Either your with us or against us (not really, hehe)

pnuts not a fag. he said if it were up to him they'd be playing all sorts of crazy shit. its Nick that is the big flaming sell out homo whiny little hollywood bitch. probably SA too.
I say dump Nick and SA and start a new band. Or at least a side project. 311 is fucking brain dead.

When it really comes down to it....it probably did make sense to keep the setlists a little more "new fan friendly" when you take into consideration Nut's response. This is exactly why I didn't waste my money on the tour this time around....you could see greatest hits setlists coming a mile away right after they announced they would be co-headlining with Snoop.

Re: PNUT's response to shitty setlists
eh, i didnt mind the greatest hit setlist. i mean yea it would have been awesome to hear a shit ton of the other stuff, but i mean i got got a couple damn nice ones (use of time, taiyed, both of which i REALLY REALLY wanted to hear live). so it may have been that them playing the two songs i wanted to hear most satisfied me. or that since i dont goto alot of shows in the first place, i dont take for granted anything they played. whatev, i dont even curr no mo

Re: PNUT's response to shitty setlists
Pnut is so god damned stupid. The whole band has forgotten what it even means to make and perform music.

Re: PNUT's response to shitty setlists
I totally agree with FreeRay and Nate. They are all delusional and are heading for disaster. PNut's entire response was exactly the opposite of what I wanted to hear, and I think only reiterated my point in the "311 has completely sold out their fans" thread. Unless this thread is somehow fake and PNut never said what he supposedly said, I'm really not thrilled about 311's future.
COME ON!
COME ON!

Re: PNUT's response to shitty setlists
mit and chad are the only cool motherfuckers left in this band, there is no reason why i had to hear love song and amber on the same set of the 3 shows i saw this summer
this tour or any other tour while they didnt have new material should have been for old school fans. play for us before you dedicate a tour to the snoop dogg mainstream fans
i like how he says "why so serious" and talking about his NIKE plug and talking shit. no one was talking shit and he was the one getting all upset
BULLSHIT SETS ARE SERIOUS YA NUT

Re: PNUT's response to shitty setlists
If you guys can't understand that 311 is a business that has to appeal to a wide market, you are retarded. The setlists are not created to please you, they are created to please everyone. Chill out and enjoy the shows.
New 311 fans are being created all around you at every show due to the set lists that are played. It's the birth of a new generation of die hard fans that will take our place when we're older and too busy to care anymore. New 311 fans is something I cannot complain about.
311 is playing it smart and looking at long term goals. Bravo.
If you want diverse setlists, it is your duty to go to 311 Day. End of story. There is no other band that does anything like what 311 does on 311 Day, be thankful for it.

Re: PNUT's response to shitty setlists
if love song makes more of a fan than silver would...then we got a problem
Re: PNUT's response to shitty setlists
I for one am not going to pretend that it wasn't All Mixed Up and Down that got me into 311. People who had been listening to 311 since Music were saying the same thing about me with All Mixed Up that you are saying about the new fans with Love Song. Now those old die hard fans have faded out and we have taken their place. One day we will fade out and the Love Song people will take our place.Samsupnthismothafuka wrote:if love song makes more of a fan than silver would...then we got a problem
Same deal, new generation. It's just a perfectly natural cycle.
P.S. Chances are, most people that had never heard any 311 hit song before would not be too interested in Silver. You get people hooked with the easily digestible stuff, then throw in the obscure stuff. I couldn't get into Grassroots until years after Blue came out.

Re: PNUT's response to shitty setlists
I think bryce, jimy, and KingOfOldSchool have the right idea
And I think nut's response was perfect. The naysayers need to buck the fuck up, grow the fuck up, or shut the fuck up.
The band makes their own decisions. If you don't like it. Don't go to the show. Personally, I skipped 311 this summer cuz I saw these kind of set lists coming. And I'm glad I did. I've seen them about 20 times, and sure I missed them this year a lot, but when I see them in 2009 and they rock the fuckin house and bust out a bunch of new tunes and rarities it will be all the sweeter. I mean, seriously, they're touring with snoop dogg for gods sake. What did you expect??
The supposed "die hard" 311 fans on here have just turned into spoiled brats who don't have a damn clue what a good live band is who is dedicated to their fans. Sometimes you need to take the good with the bad. The guys have been touring for like 25+ years they know what they're doing, and I agree with nut, it's way too easy to be critical. They shouldn't even need to defend themselves.
Like bryce said, there is no other band out there who does what 311 does on 311 day or most any other show, either. If you all can't put up with the band doing what they want to do for one tour, then maybe it's a good thing that you've moved on and aren't a fan anymore. There are plenty to go around. And there are plenty of old fans who understand the business and understand that the guys need to do what they need to do sometimes. I had a buddy who saw 311 for the first time this tour, has been to tons of shows, and he told me it was one of the best live shows he has ever seen.
Amen to pnut's underground comment/example. Also, he gets +10 points for the Dark Knight reference and another 10 for the Unity reference. Love that fuckin guy.
Seriously, take his advice. Love them or leave them. Stop sticking around if all it makes you is upset. You guys just sound like whiny trolls and spoiled children these days. 311 hasn't sold out, you all just haven't grown up.

311 is a joke now. And if you think it's ok to treat music as a business, then you have no soul.
